Victory Train Stop
Each year the chamber is privileged to participate and honor the courageous women, families and friends that have been touched by breast cancer during the annual Breast Cancer Victory Day. The 'Victory Train' makes a stop at the East Northport station and is hosted by the East Northport Chamber of Commerce. Join the chamber at 10:15am at the East Northport Train Station to help celebrate Breast Cancer survivors. This year, members of the chamber will step aboard and present white and pink carnations.
Breast Cancer Victory Day
September 29th marked the 11th Annual Breast Cancer Victory Day, "A Celebration of Life and Remembrance” for the courageous women, families and friends that have been touched by breast cancer. The day begins at 9:14 a.m. at Penn Station, where boarding started for the trip out to Mather Hospital, Port Jefferson. Women from all over the metropolitan area boarded the train at Penn and at stops along the way, for a day of celebration of life and remembrance.
The Chamber has sponsored this stop for the past several years saluting all the brave women aboard. Chamber Board Member Lynn Ruvolo said, “It’s a beautiful sight to step on board and see the many faces beaming with excitement as they head towards the celebration at Mather Hospital. In each and every smile, you can close your eyes and picture a friend or loved one who has been stricken with breast cancer.
Each year the Chamber is privileged to participate and honor each and every one of them. We want to show our support and extend our congratulations and best wishes to every woman on board.” Employees of the East Northport Post Office also stepped aboard with flowers and baked goods.
After stopping a few minutes, the train proceeds east for their day-long celebration. Keynote speakers at this year's Celebration of Life are renowned cancer researcher, Dr. Diane Esposito and breast cancer survivor, Gretchen Penn.
